Abstract

This project will investigate strategies for the development of multi-label classifiers for hierarchical and multi-label classification problems. Unlike flat classification, where classes are found in the same level, in hierarchical classification, classes can be subclasses or superclasses of other classes. The majority of classification problems in the literature involves simple-label classification, where each class is assigned to one class out of a finite set of classes. Nevertheless, there isa large number of classification problems where an object can be assigned to more than on class. These problems are called multi-label. The aim ofthis project is an investigation and study of the main multi-label hierarchical classification models that can be used for bioinformatics problems. Through this study we intent to verify the relevance of a new approach to deal with this kind of classification problem.
