Abstract

The language is an active organism in constant transformation. In this sense, the idiomatic expressions are specificities of the language which contribute extremely to this dynamism and transformation and to the linguistic enrichment of it. The present project intends to study the use of dictionaries of Portuguese Language idiomatic expressions in the educational process of students of basic teaching. We will research, in classrooms of the sixth to the ninth year of basic teaching level of private school in São José do Rio Preto city, if special dictionaries of idiomatic expressions have been used. The use of such dictionaries promotes the ideal environment for learning, because teachers and students can exchange their knowledge. In this exchange, the pupil can teach the teacher and testify the use of the most modern expressions resultants from his or her own experience. This way, both will realize the importance of this new tool in the process teach-learning.
