Abstract

The investment in sanitation and treatment of sewage is necessary for conservation of water resources. To assist the managers of the organizations in their decision making, the use of models to support decision-making has been used since the 1960s, with strong emphasis on economic issues, financial and operating of the wastewater treatment plants(WWTPs). The use of more refined models, which consider the issues of environmental sustainability of WWTPs is a subject that has attracted interest, as noted in recent literature, although relatively scarce. This research aims to develop a model multicriterial, based on methods and models of decision making, to be one of the tools to support the choice of system of sewage treatment more appropriate for a particular municipality. For this, models will be selected to represent the parameters of environmental sustainability involved in deployment, operation and maintenance of the main arrangements of WWTPs adopted in Brazil. The application of new methods and techniques followed by simulations and analysis of the results aims to provide the means to see the same problem on different visions and, using different criteria, could be a contribution to facilitate the process of decision making to choose of the alternative technical, economic, environmental and socially more feasible.
