Abstract

The objective of this study is to evaluate the effect of the substrate condition (sound and demineralized) and different application protocols of adhesive systems on immediate and long term bond strength to dentin of primary teeth. The dentin surface of 56 primary second molars will be exposed and teeth will be randomly divided into 8 groups (n = 7) according to the substrate (sound and demineralized), adhesive system (Adper Single Bond and Clearfil SE Bond) and application protocol (recommended by the manufacturer and half of the etching time or primer application). Five teeth will be utilized in microtensile test and 2 teeth will be examined in scanning electron microscope. The teeth of the demineralized substrate group will be submitted to pH cycling for the development of caries lesions. The bonding procedures will performed in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations for each adhesive system or using half the etching time or application of primer. A block of composite resin will be made and the specimens will be stored in distilled water at 37 º C for 24h. The teeth will be perpendicular sectioned to the adhesive interface into 2 axes to obtain specimens with cross-sectional area of 0.8 mm2. Half of the specimens will be submitted immediately to the microtensile test and the other half will remain in distilled water at 37 ° C for 1 year and subsequently submitted to the test. Only specimens with mixed adhesive fracture will be considered in the statistical analysis. Two teeth from each group will be prepared for evaluation by scanning electron microscopy to assess the effect of application protocols in sound and demineralized dentin in terms of morphological analysis.
