Abstract The developing prostate is under hormonal regulation, is mediated primarily by androgens ordering the growth and differentiation of this gland. However, developing prostate is sensitive to other proteins and steroid hormones, including estrogen. The formation of the embryological prostate female human and rodent occurs in an environment free of steroid hormones, but the secretion of hormones by the ovaries and the adrenal gland promotes the differentiation and secretory activity of the gland in adult life. However, known that during pregnancy, male fetuses are exposed in uterus to maternal estrogen levels are capable of eliciting pathological aberrant proliferation in adult animal. In this regard, little is known about the actual action of estrogen in the prostates of both sexes, especially when one takes into account the behavior of both the prostate during the change of hormonal balance between androgen and estrogen that occurs early of puberty and during aging of the glands. The present study aims to evaluate the morphophysiology prostate senile males and females who were exposed to synthetic estrogen levels (ethinylestradiol) in different phases: 1) during the intrauterine life, 2) early of puberty, 3) during the intrauterine life and later in early puberty. The prostates will be submitted to morphological, morphometric-stereological, immunocytochemical and ultrastructural study. So the results may help to elucidate real action of exogenous estrogen exposure in development stages and of puberty of male and female prostate and its effects during aging. | |
