Abstract

The use of sealants in pits and fissures in partnership with educational and preventive programs has been a very effective measure in preventing tooth decay. However, the arrest of incipient caries, especially in the interproximal regions, has proved a major challenge for dentistry becoming less invasive. The development of light-curing resins that infiltrate in non-cavitated lesions could lead to an arrest of lesion progression in order to preserve as much a tooth structure. The addition of antibacterial quaternary monomers in the composition of infiltrating can increase the effectiveness of these materials in relation to combating the cariogenic microorganisms without producing change in the structure of the polymer. This study aims to assess the degree of conversion, hardness and contact angle of the resin monomers TEGDMA, UDMA and BISEMA associated with ethanol 20% and HEMA, as well as evaluating the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) of antibacterial monomer methacryloxylethyl cetyl dimethyl ammonium chloride (DMAE-CB) which will be incorporated into the resin mixture. The results may contribute to the development of a new dental material of great use in pediatrics and preventive programs.
