Abstract

The purpose of this study is to assess the capability of Optical Coherence Tomography to quantify the degree of enamel demineralization during the development of simulated caries lesions, we will use the sectional microhardness analysis as a pattern for comparation. Will be used 210 samples of human tooth enamel that will be separated in 7 groups submitted to different periods of pH cycling, except the control group. To analyze the changes that can occur in each sample, they will be submitted to the OCT technique at the start of the experiment and after each pH cycling ending. Subsequently, the samples will be submitted to sectional microhardness tests, which are considered the standard technique for evaluation of tooth mineral content.
