Abstract

The literature shows that behavior problems are associated with deficits in social skills and that one of the factors of these deficits is the difficulty of identifying social contingencies and monitor conduct on them. Despite reasonable consensus , this relationship still needs further empirical support and detailing, especially with preschoolers , which is important in planning and conducting effective interventions . This study aims to: ( 1) assess similarities and differences in the repertoire of social contingencies description of preschool children with different patterns of behavior problems , (2 ) analyze the effects of a procedure involving instruction and exposure to social contingencies in situations structured to promote social competence and reduce behavior problems in preschool children . That , while watching the vignettes RMHSC - Del - Prette will be requested to report behavior which in a first stage , five groups (with social skills deficits; with internalizing and externalizing problem behaviors mixed socially competent) groups of 10 children each will consist perform on each situation and what the likely consequence. Children who have difficulty with this task will participate individually in sessions containing : presentation of each vignette, discussion about the appropriateness or relevance of each response and probable consequences , followed by participation in structured presentation of the demand for social skill before analyzed interactions . Reviews are made before, during and after the operation using structured situations. The study results will be qualitatively and quantitatively using descriptive and inferential statistical analysis.
