Abstract

The body temperature maintenance in endotherms animals involve considerable metabolic costs that can be reduced through some behaviors. In primates, several evidences of behavioral thermoregulation were pointed, for example, body posture change and favorable microhabitat selection. Studies also showed a variation on feed pattern, but the relation between thermoregulation and diet is little known. The energetic cost of thermoregulation is determined by ambient variation, and it alters the animal metabolism what interferes on all of its activities, that means, in its behavioral pattern. Hence, a study about the thermoregulation influence on food selection and on others behaviors is necessary. In this way, this work intends to investigate the influence of thermoregulation on titi-monkeys (Callicebus nigrifrons) group behaviors in region of important climatic variation, looking for connection between temperature and these behavioral patterns: behavioral postures; microhabitat selection; types of food consumed; and locomotion. The proportion of time for each activity will be compared along the day and among the seasons, to check the relations with temperature variation. (AU)
