Pre-partum feeding on the performance and physiological parameters of goats in pasture

Abstract

Due to the strong competition between the producers of the long life milk, goat milk producers from the state of Sao Paulo are being forced to adopt alternative production systems, using grazing systems as an interesting option to reduce costs and increase the efficiency of the economic activity. The objective of this research is to evaluate the effect of the racial group and the levels of supplementation of the concentrate, provided from the beginning of the pregnancy until the birth, in the following characteristics: time of grazing, physiology, reproductive performance, weight, body condition score, milk production and composition, and kids' weight. Forty-eight primiparous and multiparous goats will be kept in a production system of Panicum maximum ssp rotational grazing three racial groups (GR): Alpine, Anglo-Nubian, and hybrid ½ Alpine + ½ Boer and they will be subjected to two different levels of supplementation of the concentrate: 30% and 60% fed on dry food. The experiment will be developed in a complete in a random design 3 x 2, with three racial groups and two levels of concentrate. The results will be analyzed periodically and the statistics will be performed by the computer program SAEG, version 9.0 (UFV, 2000) and the results will be compared by the Tukey test (p<0,05). (AU)
