Abstract The Laboratory of anatomopathology of Instituto Biologico/SP is authorized by the Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture (MAPA) to perform the histopathological differential diagnosis of encephalitis and Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy. From January 2004 to June 2007 were examined by histopathology 690 brains from cattle with neurological syndrome negative to rabies (direct immunofluorescence), 40.0% (276) presented lesions, and the non purulent meningoencephalitis was the most frequent - 90.0% (249/276). This inflammatory infiltrate characterized by mononuclear cells indicates that viruses, parasites or bacterias are causing encephalitis, and that is necessary to use specific and sensitive tests to diagnose then. The present study proposes to diagnose Bovine Leukaemia Virus in bovine brain samples sent to Instituto Biológico perform the differential diagnosis of neurological syndrome, by the association of lesions by histology (Hematoxilin/Eosin stainning) and PCR in cattle negative for rabies. The genomic sequencing of the BLV will be performed in order to verify the genetic polymorphism of the samples obtained. (AU) | |
