Effects of radiotherapy, chemotherapy and surgical treatments in the performance of the stomatognathic system in individuals with head and neck cancer.

Abstract

Considering the significant influence of treatments for the treatment of cancers of head and neck in craniofacial muscles action, this work intend to analyze the electromyographic activity of masseter and temporal (anterior portion), the masticatory efficiency and bite force of young, adults and the elderly people before and / or after the use of radiotherapy alone or combined with chemotherapy and / or resective surgery, and after the rehabilitation of some cases. Will be also collected data from temporomandibular disorders, facial and clinical data before and after medical treatment and dental care. Participate in the study patients who seek treatment at Department of Surgery, Faculty of Dentistry, University of São Paulo, Discipline of Prosthodontics Bucco-maxillo-facial, and the Cancer Hospital Aid Association, Section of Dentistry, specifically on the care of patients with cancer malignant head and neck under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Reinaldo Brito Days in São Paulo USP and under the supervision of Dr. Hélio Massaiochi Tanimoto Cancer Hospital Aid Association. Will be selected on a non-randomized 50 patients aged 25-75 years, diagnosed with cancer in the head and neck.
