Abstract

From the study of the action taken ideologically by the New State Vargas of salvation of building of the nation, through the "March to the West", which triggered the departure of settlers and cattle ranchers to the region of high-Araraquarense (extreme North West) from São Paulo, this research will aim to answer the question about what were the reactions of the direct producers on the expansion of cattle in these shores through the advancement of plantations on small grass fields related to direct consumption and/or on the coffee plantations, sharecroppers and/or tenants, and in this sense, exploring the consequences of the settlement of the region, based on the desire of capital accumulation. Another focus of this research is to analyze how this desire for "better times" bowed to the strained relationships between farmers, tenants, employers and owners of large landed estates. The historical and the scenario chosen for this study take us the 40 and 50 of the twentieth century and specifically to the region of Jales - São Paulo State - especially, the municipalities of Rubinéia - including farms Mariana and São João do Bosque - and Santa Fé do Sul, which was the seat of conflicting discussions and decisions about social conflicts over the ownership and land use.
