Abstract

The proposal of this project is to analyse the jesuit evangelization policy in Japan promoted by the new rules of Father Visitator and General Vicar in Ásia, Alessandro Valignano. We will work starting from the chronicle Historia de Japam (1584-1594), where the jesuit father Luis Fróis wrote about the history of the japanese mission from its begining (1549) to the year of 1594. In order to put this chronicle in the largest context of the evangelizaton policy of the Visitator, we will also analyse the O Cerimonial (1583) wrote by Valignano himself with the purpose of establishing his evangelization policy. This research will try to evaluate what would be the rules pointed in the Cerimonial and to verify its fulfillment or variations that we would find in Fróis vision.
