Abstract

This research project is intended to contribute to our understanding of the subjective and cognitive dimensions of social inequality in Brazil, which has been recurrently described as one of the highest in the world. I am particularly interested in (a) how educational processes are linked to a certain way of seeing the world and seeing oneself in relation to others, and (b) the consequences of this perception in terms of the ways different groups relate to school, work, and money, and internalize a sense of what is and what is not possible for them to achieve.
