Abstract

We propose to discuss the management of language in the written works of João Guimarães Rosa, to identify signs of one of the strongest conflicts in Brazilian cultural history: the clash of established power between the educated and the unlettered. Our initial hypothesis is that this tension can often appear in Rosa's works under the guise of clash between the way adults deal with the language of children. Discussing the issue of languages, and highlighting an issue still rarely addressed by researchers of Rosa, we also approach theoretical reflections on history and cultural history. (AU)
