Abstract

Clays modified with quaternary ammonium salts with varied carbon chain lengths have been investigated to ascertain their ability to remove various types of organic pollutants. In the present work, 3,10-ionene polysoap is prepared from a bentonite matrix. The potential of this material as a filtering medium in a permeable reactive barrier is then evaluated. In aqueous solution, [n, m]-Ionenes with short methylene segments, such as [3,10]-Ionene, take on an elongated rod-like shape, which will be tested to "lasso" the benzene ring. (AU)
