Abstract

In uniaxial compressive testing are commonly used sulfur paste or neoprene discs for leveling both ends of the specimen, which leads to problems for the environment, for the operator and appreciable cost. So would be highly beneficial replace these materials by another, of less cost and less aggression to nature and the operator, and at the same time provide satisfactory and acceptable result. The objective of this project is to study the efficiency of MDF plates as material for capping of both ends of the cylindrical concrete specimens, in compressive strength tests, and compare the results obtained with rectified surfaces and traditional materials of capping such as sulfur and neoprene. Will be assessed a kind of concrete with four different compression strength, of 25, 35, 45 and 55 MPa, with cylindrical specimens of dimensions 10 x 20 cm. Will be calculated and compared the costs of different types of capping used in the study.
