Abstract

Introduction: Hearing impairment brings many difficulties, since its effect on communication as well as their resulting impact on psychosocial development, cognitive, language and learning. For the diagnosis of hearing impairment and characterization of the degree and type of loss has been necessary to use behavioral procedures and objectives. As a way to complement the infant audiological diagnosis, grows more the applicability of the Auditory Steady State Response (ASSR) as a new electrophysiological technique. Objective: The objective of this study is to verify whether a correlation exists between the thresholds eletrofisilógicos obtained from the records of the auditory steady state response (ASSR) and behavioral thresholds obtained with pure tone audiometry in children and adolescents with normal hearing and with sensorineural hearing loss . Method: Participants in this study 60 subjects of both sexes aged between 5 and 15 years were divided into two groups: 30 subjects with normal hearing (Group I) and 30 subjects with sensorineural hearing loss (Group II). Will be submitted to: pure tone audiometry, speech audiometry (SRT and SRI), acoustic immittance measures (tympanometry and acoustic reflexes) and auditory steady state response. (AU)
