Abstract

Introduction: Although there is an academic consensus regarding the procedures needed for the fabrication of complete dentures (conventional method), some studies suggest the viability of simplified methods (i.e., without a second series of impressions or facebow transfer). Simplified methods can potentially reduce treatment costs; nevertheless, these methods are based on weak evidence and it is possible that several dentists already use them routinely. Objectives: To survey how many dentists adopt technical procedures compatible with conventional or simplified methods for complete denture fabrication. We will also assess a possible association between adopted practices and professional profile. Methods: A questionnaire will be sent online to the dentists working in the state of São Paulo. The questionnaire was developed for this protocol and contains questions about complete denture fabrication techniques according to the principles involved in simplified and conventional methods. The frequency of different answers will be quantified, and the association between professional profile and clinical conduct will be investigated. (AU)
