Abstract

A clinical study, observational, non-analytical, cross-sectional with the aim to evaluate the connection between mastigatory performance and salivary flow in elderly edentulous patients submitted to two types of oral rehabilitation with conventional maxillary complete denture and implant supported prosthesis of the type mandibular protocol. After the Informed Consent Term (TCLE) previously approved by the Research Ethics Committee (CEP), 55 volunteers of both sexes and users of superior conventional total prosthesis and implant-supported prosthesis of the lower protocol type will be included in the study. To masticatory capacity will be use chewing gum (Vivident Fruitswing), the chewing product will be analyses by visual method of chewed bolus. To salivary flow a paraffin will be used to stimulate the saliva and being measured. The descriptive analysis of the data and the Chi-Square test will be used to verify the possible association between masticatory performance and salivary flow for each number of masticatory cycles investigated (± = 0.05). Clinical studies are important to the implementation of satisfactory treatment of the elderly population during clinical care. (AU)
