Abstract

The dental Implantology promoted a great advance in the rehabilitation of edentulous patients with severe alveolar bone resorption and low retention and stability in the cases of conventional total dentures. Mini-implants are an option for patients with narrow alveolar ridges, allowing greater simplicity of surgical procedures, minimizing need for flaps and grafts, lower postoperative morbidity and reduced cost. The association between mini-implants and new technologies such as additive manufacture or 3D printing may collaborate for advances in dental treatment, making possible preparation of future customized implants, reducing the time of rehabilitation and preservation of tissues. The objective of the present study will be to evaluate the structure-properties correlation of new models of mini-implants obtained by machined and additive manufacturing, through morphological analysis by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), chemical composition via spectroscopy by X-ray diffractive energy (EDS), quantification of the primary stability of the mini-implants through mean insertion torque and pullout test, stress distribution using photoelastic and digital image correlation (DIC) methods, and comparison of the mechanical properties of the manufactured mini-implants by additive manufacturing with those made by machined and commercial dental implants. For the statistical analysis, the distribution and homogeneity of the data will be verified, followed by parametric, non-parametric and descriptive analysis, depending on the distribution, with a significance level of 5% (± = 0.05).
