Abstract

Currently, research on tumors in dogs is directed to the immunological aspects, prognostic markers, diagnosis, and treatment, especially in mammary tumors in dogs as it is similar to breast tumors in women and serves as an experimental model for studies in women. In the other skin tumors of dogs, among them, squamous cell carcinoma, studies that focus on the inflammatory response of the dog in the face of these tumors are very rare. Just as certain pathogens, tumor cells are able to modulate the host immune system to favor their growth and survival. Inflammatory cells in these cases can act against the host by producing growth factors, cytokines, or enzymes that are beneficial to the tumor, favoring neovascularization, extracellular matrix degradation, and invasion of blood vessels to reach other organs. Therefore, it becomes crucial to the development of research that addresses these issues in order to elucidate the complex pathogenesis of these tumors and contribute to future studies of tumor immunotherapy. Therefore, the aim of this study was to assess the predominant profile of leukocytes (lymphocytes, macrophages, and plasma cells) infiltrating canine squamous cell carcinoma and compare these findings with histologic type less (non keratinized) or more differentiated (keratinizing) this tumor.(AU)
