Abstract

The discharge from the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and the moments after this discharge are critical for the family, especially for the mother, as they are developing the care they will offer to the premature child. The present study aims to describe the family process to care for a premature child until one month after discharge and to identify interventions that promote a family response in the development of this care. The theoretical approach adopted symbolic interactionism and the methodological framework is the thematic narrative. The data collection will be developed through interviews with mothers whose premature children have had discharge between one to thirty days from the neonatal Intensive Care Unit. The results will contribute to knowledge about mothering premature babies.(AU)
