Abstract

The band that was the precursor of national rock Os Mutantes was one of the main references in Brazilian music world in the sixties and seventies, and, therefore, subject of study of this project, which proposes to analyze the discursive constitution of the band's style as part of the Brazilian identity. The theoretical fundamentation of this research is the philosophy of language of the Bakhtin Circle, specifically based on the conception of discursive genres (composeds of shape, content and style), in order to comprehend the band's architectonic, and this is the importance of this research. The defended hypothesis is that Mutante's style is anthropofagic, given the collective way its work was composed. Besides experimentalism and psychedelism, the constitution of the band's style was influenced, musically and compositionally, by The Beatles' rock and Tropicália's carnivalesque anthropofagy. It is expected that, by the end of this study, we will be able to comprehend the architectonic construction of the Mutante's work as an exemplar that was precursor of national rock and belonging to Brazilian song genre: the style of being Mutante.
