Abstract

The occurrence of soybean diseases is considered one of the causes of the reduction of grain yield. Besides affecting productivity, the disease can also cause damage to seed quality. Soybean seeds are an important vehicle for the dissemination and survival of many pathogens, which can interfere with germination and vigor. For this reason, shows the importance of using healthy seeds and vigorous to the crop installation. The seed technology comprises a body of knowledge applied to the development techniques for the production and use of high seeds quality, and the main goal of this research area provide subsidies to ensure continued delivery seed lots with high performance, attributes with full expression of genetic, physiological, and physical health. Accurate assessment of the seed quality lot is only possible through the analysis of samples representing the lot and correct results interpretation. Several already established procedures for assessing seed vigor are available at national and international literature, such as accelerated aging, electrical conductivity and cold test, that will be employed in this research. The continuous progress of knowledge on the seed analysis allowed the development of alternatives to standard procedures, such as image analysis, which has emerged as a potentialy indisputable tool in seeds analysis. Thus, this research has proposed to analyze the viability using image analysis, through the Seed Vigor Imaging System (SVIS ®) to assess the effect, linking it to possible damage caused by soybean seeds pathogens.
