The use of computerized systems for seed or seedling image analysis of seeds is a promising alternative to reduce the subjectivity and time for seed physiological potential evaluation. A new system for automated analysis of seed vigor, Vigor-S, was developed as part of the thematic project "Image analysis in seed technology research" supported by FAPESP (process 2006/57900-0). Initial results using this system were consistent, but further studies are necessary to improve methodology. Thus, the objective of this project is evaluate the Vigor-S efficiency to identify differences in seed physiological potential among soybean seed lots, in comparison to the Seed Vigor Imaging System - SVIS and vigor tests recommended for soybean seeds. Research will be conducted in three evaluation times, using seeds of two cultivars (BMX Potência RR and 7166 RSF IPRO), each represented by ten lots with similar germination and differences in vigor. After determining seed water content, germination and vigor tests will be conducted (accelerated aging, tetrazolium, SVIS, Vigor-S, and field seedling emergence). Data will be submitted to analysis of variance separately for each cultivar and test, according to a completely randomized design, except for the field seedling emergence in the field, which will follow a randomized block design. The averages will be compared by the Tukey test (p <0.05). (AU)
