This research try to identify the various relationships involving the schools of samba in the city of São Paulo the other segments of society and the Brazilian state in the 1970s and 1980s, from the perspective that these schools are institutions of social and political action. The relationships presented themselves in complex and ambiguous forms, and are observed moments of agreement among all social actors and others moments of rebellion and protest. The main sources of this research are the plots and sambas-enredo of main groups associations in the city of Sao Pauloassociations between 1970 and 1989, physically available in the archive of the Centro de Documentação e Memória do Samba of the União das Escolas de Samba Paulistanas and virtually in the collection of the Sociedade Amantes do Samba Paulista.
