Abstract

The pollution adversely affects cardiovascular function through damage to the autonomic control and, in contrast, regular physical exercise helps to increase parasympathetic activity, however, little is known about the outcomes of this association. This study investigated the association between air pollution and exercise, to identify the magnitude of the effect of exercise on the cardiovascular system in unfavorable conditions. Will be selected 40 healthy adults 20-30 years of age, grouped by levels of physical fitness and pollution. The selection of locations/cities considered the indices provided by the Environmental Company of São Paulo over the period of 5 years (2005-2009), resulting in the metropolitan region of Sao Paulo in Sao Carlos. IPAQ will apply an Algorithm for identifying Stages of Behavior Change for Physical Activity to verify the behavior of habitual physical activity of individuals. Will be measured by HRV ® Polar S810 heart monitor during rest and submaximal exercise test performed on the bank of Queens College. The method of HRV analysis will be defined later, after verification of the behavior (linear or nonlinear) of the data collected. For descriptive data analysis will be performed the calculations of mean and standard deviation, frequency, and percentage. Will be performed chi-square and Student t-test for independent samples. To compare these two groups (physical fitness) and conditions (pollution) will be held two way ANOVA followed by a posthoc test of Bonferroni. (AU)
