Abstract

In the transitional period to the extra-uterine life, there are some pathological events can modify the neonate clinical evaluation on distinct manners. Therefore the pulmonary hypertension is a problem that seems to require more clinical attention, thus it represents the neonate non capacity on assimilating the new environment. The persistence of the neonate hypoxia is directly related with the incomplete lungs maturation or non-mature lungs, thereby it affects the pulmonary gas exchanges capacity of the newborn calf. It has been noticed that the arterial hypertension is even a common problem in animals derived from the cloning techniques. In this context, the closure of the ductus arteriosus and the foramen ovale has a delay, thus the early occlusion of these structures is dependent of the oxygen pressure in the arterial blood, what affects all tissues oxygenation of the newborn. The association of the evaluation of the pulmonary function, blood gas and oxymetry is an option to evaluate the pulmonary gas exchanges of the neonate qualitatively and quantitatively as a treatment response indicator, when trying to improve the respiration of these animals by using respiratory stimulants, bronchodilators, phosphodiesterase inhibitors or surfactant. Therefore it will be possible to better understand the pulmonary events on newborns and evaluate with greater confidence the neonate viability. Thus the aims of this work are evaluate the pulmonary capacity associated to blood gas of pre-term, term and cloned newborn calves.
