Abstract

Adhesives for complete dentures, when correctly indicated, are widely used to improve their retention and stability, ensuring comfort for its wearers. The objective of this study is evaluate in complete denture wearers, the effect of using two denture adhesives (A1- Ultra Corega cream and A2- Ultra Corega powder) on the pattern of mandibular movements, maxillary complete denture movement, and satisfaction. The patients (n=50) will receive a new set of conventional complete dentures, and after post-insertion adjustment period, the sample will be submitted to an initial assessment to record the jaw movements (chewing) and maxillary complete denture movement by electrokinesiography and satisfaction index (baseline), and then randomly divided in two protocols: protocol 1- use of A1 during the first 15 days, followed by not using any type of adhesive (washout) over the next 15 days, and use of A2 for additional 15 days; protocol 2- use of A2 during the first 15 days, followed by not using any type of adhesive (washout) over the next 15 days, and use of A1 for additional 15 days. Jaw movements (chewing) and maxillary complete denture movement will be evaluated by electrokinesiography and satisfaction index will be assessed by means of a questionnaire. Electrokinesiography records and patients' responses to the satisfaction questionnaire will be tabulated and submitted to appropriate statistical tests for paired samples according to adherence to normality. Statistical analysis will be performed with significance level of 5%. (AU)
