Abstract

The objective of this project is to study the behavior of a relativistic particle moving under the influence of a uniform magnetic field and an electrostatic wave. The properties of the system will be studied as a function of the parameters of the electrostatic wave and among these properties we point out the perturbation level from which the system becomes chaotic, how the transition to chaos occurs and the possibility of accelerating the particle coherently from initial low energies. Besides the study of such properties, we will analyze how the creation of a robust torus in the phase space of the system affects the regular acceleration of the particle. We also intend to apply two methods of control of chaos to reduce the chaotic regions in the phase space of the system. The efficiency of the two methods of control will be compared and to conclude, we will study how they influence the process of regular acceleration of the particle. (AU)
