Abstract

This research project aims to study the tunelling phenomena and the quantum transport properties in magnetic nano-structures, particularly in magnetic tunnelling juntions, metallic nanocontact and magnetic clusters covered by thin films. We will investigate MTJ performing realistic calculations of the transport considering the effect of magnetic impurities in the insulating layer and magnon-assisted inelastic scattering in tunnel magnetoresistance. We intend to study the conductivity in magnetic clusters covered by thin films by calculating the quantum transport as a function of the clusters separation. In addition, we will study the magnetoresistance in ferromagnetic nanocontacts due to domain walls.
