Abstract

This project proposes to carry out a phytochemical study and evaluate the activity of antiradical methanol extract, enriched fractions, and/or isolated substances from Paepalanthus giganteus Sano (Eriocaulaceae) the scapes. Previous studies have shown that there is a great difference between the chemical constituents in capitulate and scapes in Eriocaulaceae species, especially the genus Paepalanthus. Since the scapes of the species studied previously, a promising source of substances with antiradical activity, and the study of the methanol extract of P. scapes giganteus, which has no further chemical studies, it becomes promissory. The phytochemical is intended to use the usual chromatographic techniques, especially for polar substances such as Gel Permeation Chromatography (Sephadex LH-20), Counter-Current Chromatography High-speed, high-performance liquid chromatography, and spectroscopic methods to determine structural as mass spectrometry, infrared and nuclear magnetic resonance. At the same time, the activity will be evaluated antiradical the methanol extract, fractions enriched, and/or substances isolated from the scapes of P. giganteus using the DPPH.(AU)
