Abstract

In order to study the concepts of geographic knowledge expressed by Monteiro Lobato in Geography of Dona Benta (1935), we propose this research. The dialogue between the geographical scientific knowledge and knowledge literary is fundamental to the understanding of how Geography as a field of knowledge that seeks to understand the geographical space, denotes its repertoire and its specific genre while. Understanding the current cultural mindset in a given historical and geographical period is a prerequisite for the interpretation of the concepts and values proposed by the authors who consolidate their ideas through writing, be it literary or scientific nature. Accordingly,the research we propose, of bibliographic and documentary character, be founded on the experience of reading the work in question, seeking to analyze the contributions of Monteiro Lobato for the construction of representations of geographic space and the production of national identity in the period the First Republic in Brazil (1889-1930) the literary bias.
