Associated scholarship(s): | 12/16412-3 - Revision and analysis of the type material of Glenognatha Simon, 1887 (Araneae, Tetragnathidae) species deposited in United States museums and assessment of genital and respiratory system characters for the phylogenetic reconstruction of the genus, BE.EP.MS |
Abstract Tetragnathidae currently has 47 genera and 947 species. This family has been one of the groups of spiders with the largest number of biological, taxonomic and phylogenetic studies in recent years. However, taxonomic revisions with genera that include species with broad distribution in the Neotropical region are still very scarce. Glenognatha Simon, 1887, belongs to the subfamily Tetragnathinae and currently has 21 species. It is distributed throughout the Americas, the Caribbean islands, the Galapagos Islands, French Polynesia and Cameroon. While there is no accurate diagnosis of the genus Glenogantha, this taxon is mainly characterized by having the tracheal spiracle shifted to the anterior region. Recent phylogenies suggest Pachygnatha Sundevall, 1823 as the sister group of Glenognatha. This project aims to conduct a taxonomic revision of the genus Glenognatha, a cladistic analysis among species based on morphological characters, developing a dichotomous key for identification of the species and registration of the geographical distribution of species. | |
