Abstract

The family Tetragnathidae currently has 47 genera and 957 species. This family has been subject of numerous biological, phylogenetic and taxonomic researches in recent years. However, revisions of genera that include species with Neotropical distribution are still very scarce. The genus Glenognatha Simon, 1887 is an example since it was never revised and its monophyly has not yet been tested. Glenognatha has 21 species, 11 of those distributed in the Neotropics. 67% of described species have been examined, but type material deposited in some American museums needs to study. This project aims to: 1) examine and photograph the type material of eight species of the genus Glenognatha deposited in the Bernice Bishop Musem (five holotypes), National Museum of Natural History - Smithsonian Institution (one holotype) and Yale Peabody Museum (two holotypes ), 2) perform scanning electron microscopy (SEM) with informative structures for phylogenetic analysis among species of the genus and 3) discuss results of the project with Dr. Gustavo Hormiga at George Washington University, an specialist in Tetragnathidae systematics worldwide. Loan material is going to be examined in the laboratory of Dr. G. Hormiga. (AU)
