Abstract

The emergence of new information technologies in the 1980s and increasing transnationalization process of knowledge production reorganized the platforms of biomedical research on a global level. Coupled with an "enlargement" of the institutional basis of science and technology policy in developed countries, this situation has promoted a reconfiguration of scientific production in life sciences, directed to knowledge of the human genome and its systematic application in Western medicine. This research project aims to present the main characteristics and new practices of scientific activity which reconfigured the content of knowledge production in the biomedicine's late twentieth century, focusing on trajectory of oncogenomics in Brazil. Specific objective of research is understand the processes of organization and rationalization of scientific activity on basic research laboratory of oncogenomics and molecular biology of cancer, analyzing them critically from the theoretical tools of the Sociology of Science and Technology. It is intended, thereby, thinking knowledge production as a result of socio-technical systems institutionally organized, understanding science as a human action guided by values of the scientific community. The Knowledge of complexity system of scientific production is essential to establish policies for innovation and organizing an effective agenda of technological diffusion.
