Abstract

This project intends to mobilize the historically constructed referential regarding the social markers of difference in order to deal with problems that involve the practice of categories such as "intellectual disability", "mental disability", "special people", among others that come from a similar semantic universe. The goal is to inquire how the subjects that identify themselves, or are identified by those categories negotiate them in everyday experiences. Three paths of analysis are to be devolved: identities, investigating the ways in which these individuals resort to those categories in the constitution of their social identities; subjectivities, dealing with the manners of narrating oneself, giving coherence to autobiographies; and corporealities, querying the body performances based on the process of making visible - or not visible - the disabilities in different situations. The methodology of this project is based on the access to a social network, built by the participation in encounters promoted by a leisure company in Sao Paulo. In-depth interviews in the format of life story with individuals that belong to that network will be conducted, as well as the mapping of online groups of dialogue and exchange of experiences.
