Abstract

There is a consensus in the health sector about the importance of families in the management of health care. In the context of tuberculosis (TB), the inclusion of families in TB care represents a source of stimulation for TB patients and the possibility of elaborating a new horizon of life by themselves. The authors proposed to assess the knowledge, attitudes and stigma regarding TB in families of patients with this disease in municipality of Ribeirao Preto. The study is a descriptive epidemiologic study. The sample of study consisted of families of TB patients diagnosed among January 1 to July 31, 2011. A questionnaire will be pre-tested and validated by authors; it contains open and closed questions. The questions were structured in sequential order and it grouped according to the dependent variables under study. The tool of research contains a section of individual characterization of subjects, clinical and epidemiological information of patients, knowledge of families about disease and a section with scale of attitudes and stigma regarding TB. In the analysis of closed questions, the researchers will be applied to logistic regression, chi-square test for comparison of frequencies and Multiple Correspondence Analysis (MCA). For open questions, the authors will be applied Thematic Content Analyze. The study can contribute to the innovation of TB care and involvement of families in this care. (AU)
