Abstract

The sugar cane has an important role in the Brazilian economy, with significant increases in planted areas in the country due to its increasing use as bioenergy and sugar. Among the factors that interfere with the development and productivity of sugar cane are the weeds, and the main form of control is the use of herbicides. Among the various options for pre-emergence herbicides registered for the cultivation of sugar cane is the Tebutiurom. When applied to the culture of sugar cane this pesticide may follow different routes, reaching the ground directly or indirectly. In contact with the ground it can be absorbed by plant roots, leached, degraded or remain strongly sorbed to the soil. When a molecule of pesticide is sorbed to colloids, it can be in the form of residue on (not available), however, in some cases, part of the fraction bound to the soil can return to the soil solution, this process is known as remobilization. The application of vinasse to fertigation, sugar cane straw and sugar cane filter cake is widely used in the cane fields, but it is unclear whether this practice causes the mineralization and remobilization of bound residues of herbicides in the soil, and can bring benefits for the degradation of these herbicides by microorganisms soil, or affect the quality of the soil, leaching to groundwater. Understanding the behavior of this molecule and its bound residues in the environment, as well as its destination, it is essential to develop strategies for remediation and prevention of environmental impacts caused by its use in soils cultivated with sugar cane in the State of São Paulo. Due to the extensive use of the herbicide Tebutiurom and environmental significance of the study of bound residues, this study aims to evaluate, under laboratory conditions, the behavior of the herbicide in soil Tebutiurom, distribution and remobilization of bound residues in its two soils grown with contrasting textures cane sugar with the addition of vinasse, sugar cane filter cake and sugar cane straw, as an indication of bioavailability and detoxification of this herbicide and/or its metabolites.
