Abstract

Pythium insidious is the etiologic agent of pythiosis, a disease that affects animals and humans and is difficult to diagnose and treat. This study aims to evaluate the sensitivity in vitro of Pythium insidious front of the essential oil of clove. Samples to be used will be from 10 isolates of Pythium insidious, one of the first diagnosed cases of human pythiosis in Brazil, and other equine infections that occurred in São Paulo served in the Veterinary Hospital of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Botucatu, UNESP Campus and Jaboticabal. To determine the minimum inhibitory concentration, tests are carried out at concentrations of 0.5, 1.0, 2.5, 5.0, and 10%. Each concentration to be tested will be used in standardized innocuous 5 5mm in diameter, which will be assessed daily for a period of 7 days. Photographic documentation will be held at 24, 48, and 168 hours of culture after treatment. From results obtained with the MIC determination, will be held determination by the survival curve using the time 6, 12, and 18 hours.(AU)
