Abstract

The possibility of energetic harnessing from methane gas generated in landfills is an alternative to decrease the generation of gases which aggravate the global warming and for the use of alternative energy sources. In this sense, the work to be developed proposes the use of chemical and physical parameters of the leachate and waste grounded as a guide and reference for the selection of parameter values used to estimate methane generation and the potential energy in the mathematical model LandGEM. With the results achieved by applying the mathematical model in municipal landfill in Rio Claro-SP will be realized a comparison with flow values measured in field, in order to allow the final calibration of the model and its correlation with the parameters analyzed of the leachate and of the wastes grounded. Such assessment may subsidize more accurate studies on the potential energy use of gas generated in landfills. (AU)
