Abstract

The aim of the project is to study the transformation of fusel oil, from the ethanol industry and vegetable oil in esters of long-chain through an efficient and green synthesis procedure. We will extract the main alcohols of fusel oil with high purity and carry out the subsequent transesterification of the triacylglycerols present in vegetable oils, for obtaining biodiesel rich in long-chain esters, we will also perform the study of the separation and application of these esters. It can be found in the literature the synthesis of biodiesel with several alcohols, but this project aims to use alcohol obtained from fusel oil because this residue reaches up to the national production of nearly 60 million liters per year. In addition to recovering residues, we will synthesize molecules with important applications in industries such as cosmetics and lubricants among others. To obtain the compounds of interest described in this project, three procedures are important. Firstly, the extraction of alcohols from crude fusel oil, then the efficient and clean synthesis of biodiesel, and finally the separation and characterization of the esters obtained. For this study, we have a well-equipped laboratory and the motivation described in the project.(AU)
