Abstract

The aim of this proposal is the fabrication and study of Organic Light Emitting Diodes (OLED) containing membranes of plasticized bio-inspired macromolecules such as DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid), modified DNA (DNA-CTMA (cetyltrimethylammonium) and DNA-DODA (dodecyldimethylammonium)) and/or DNA- doped with dye or PEDOT. The idea is to obtain higher photoluminescence efficiencies by improvement of interlayer contact and also to obtain electroluminescent devices by doping DNA with active dyes. To achieve the objectives of this proposal the membranes will be obtained through the plasticizing process of natural macromolecule with one of the plasticizers, such as glycerol, ethylene glycol, ethylene carbonate or propylene carbonate, among others, and addition of different types of hole conducting macromolecules like poly(ethylene dioxy thiophene) (PEDOT) or electroluminescent molecules such as rubrene (5,6,11,12-tetraphenylnaphthacene), coumarin-6 (3-(2'-benzothiazolyl)-7-diethylaminocoumarin) or pyrocatechol violet. The membranes will be applied in small OLED prototypes, which will be characterized by the emission spectra analysis. (AU)
