Abstract

This project aims to develop a course plan related to the practice of improvisation in Brazilian music for the Undergraduate Program in Popular Music at the Art Institute of UNICAMP. The project is a continuation of the candidate's doctoral research, entitled "A proposal for the practice of improvisation in Brazilian popular music based on elements extracted from choro, frevo and baião". Although the practice of improvisation is a very important part of the musical training of the popular musician, the Music Program at UNICAMP still has no specific course on this subject. Based mainly on the analysis of the jazz improvisation course syllabus of the Jazz Studies Program at the Indiana University, the proposed project will develop a set of activities which will be tested and evaluated in classroom practice with undergraduate students in the Popular Music Program at UNICAMP. In addition to the main goal of creating an efficient improvisation course plan, this project also aims to motivate investigation and theoretical reflection via musical practice. In this way, it will contribute to new perspectives and research approaches in the field of performance.
