Abstract

Brazil, with its rich biodiversity has one of the more extensive coast of the planet, and has a great advantage in relation to other countries to face the research with natural products. However, these richness were not yet very studied, which makes the prospect of natural products a promising field. The sponges have been the most studied marine organisms from the chemical point of view, having hundreds of isolated compounds, including those showing potent biological activities. Large percentage of micro-organisms associated with the sponges, studied up to the present, showed active metabolites, in comparison with the micro-organisms originated from soils or plants. Taking this into account, the aim of this project is to study the extracts from the growth medium of two strains of fungi that were isolated from a marine sponge (Mycale angulosa), and that showed anti-inflammatory activity, aiming the isolation of its bioactive metabolites, monitored by bioassays.(AU)
