Abstract

Studies show that Agile Methods have provided significant gains in software development projects. But, we also know that by prioritizing the delivery, often the quality is still left out and technical debts may be inserted into the software. Most of them are not even known, even less followed throughout the process of evolution of software or managed. Implying in high costs of maintenance over the life cycle of the software. These Debts have being studied by Cunningham, who created the metaphor of Technical Debt, precisely in order to improve the quality of delivered software. From the moment the debts are inserted, interest begins to be contracted, and at some future time may have to be paid. Make them visible and manage them, will allow strategic decision makers to choose the best time to pay them. Or even if they need to pay them or not, because they are seeing the impact / cost of the same throughout the cycle software development. The objective of this PhD project is grounded on existing studies to observe actual cases in organizations that follow the values of the Agile and check how is the occurrence and Technical Debt or insertion of software development and how it is treated and / or if he is treated. And then suggest ways that can help them manage the Technical Debt in Agile context. Seeking to reduce the high costs generated by debt issued and unmanaged.
