Abstract Due the absence of studies addressing the effects of bioactive glasses in erosion control and the importance and prevalence of this type of tooth wear, this study aims to evaluate in vitro the effect of applying a bioactive glass-ceramic in the control of erosion lesions in enamel and root dentin. To this end, bovine enamel and root dentin fragments (5 x 5 mm) (n = 10) will receive daily application of different surface treatments (1. Biosilicate ® 2. Acidulated phosphate fluoride, 3. Untreated) during the performance of erosive cycles (citric acid, 5 min; 1x days, 21 days). The surface of the specimens will be analyzed with a contact profilometer before the completion of cycles (baseline scan), allowing to quantify the superficial loss (um), by profilometry, in four periods of the erosive challenge: initial (1 day) and at the end of each week (7, 14 and 21 days). For the same periods, the extension in depth of erosive lesions (um) will be evaluated using confocal laser scanning, as well as crystal deposition pattern (SEM) and crystalline compounds (X-ray diffraction) formed after application of different treatments will be analyzed qualitatively. | |
