Abstract

The formation of nocturnal heat island is a phenomenon of prominence in research of urban planning and thermal comfort, and urban geometry is one of it causes. Theoretically, the lower the visible sky factor, the bigger the accumulation of heat in the surfaces and the greater the air temperature. The phenomenon results from the influence of urbanization characteristics, which modify the energy storage of cities. Amongst the research in this context, the model developed by Oke (1981) is highlighted. This project has the objective of adapting this model to a computational simulation in a GIS in order to verify the influence of urban geometry in the formation of nocturnal heat islands. Moreover, the verification of the differences between some models of calculation of urban climate is considered. The methodology to be used includes the recognition of the tools of ArcGis software for the development of a sub-routine of calculation. For the phase of optimizing the tool, a simulation of a real situation will be realized, and for the analysis of the influence of urban geometry in the formation of heat islands, simulations of diverse scenarios with different geometries will be performed. In order to establish a comparison of the models and verification of limitations the ENVI-met software will be applied to the same scenarios. It is expected that, based on the simplified models and with a more contemporary language, it will be possible to verify in a GIS environment the importance of urban geometry in the formation of nocturnal heat islands.
